“If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change,” said Michael Jackson, known as the ‘uncrowned king’ of global pop music, a legend witnessed, experienced, and heard by millions. He was born on August 29, 1958, in Indiana, USA. His father, Joseph Jackson, gathered his five sons to start the musical group ‘Jackson Five.’ At just five years old, Michael showcased his singing prowess, holding the vast audience spellbound, a talent that could embarrass even seasoned singers. Motown signed this popular group for record deals. From 1969 to 1971, they released six quality songs. Michael’s voice also recorded songs including ‘I will be there’ in 1971, which ranked fourth among the best songs of the year. In 1978, he acted in a movie with Diana Ross and met the renowned music director Quincy Jones. In 1979, he released the album ‘Off the Wall.’ Both general viewers and critics lauded it, and Michael Jackson’s new storm swept across the globe. His 1982 album ‘Thriller’ set a new record, with over 40 million copies sold, earning eight Grammy Awards—a record only Michael could achieve. “If you want to learn, watch the greats work,” he would say, indicating that his inspiration came from experiencing and observing.

MTV had just started, and ‘Billie Jean,’ ‘Beat It,’ and ‘Thriller’ pioneered a new medium combining song and dance. His dance skills and voice dominated the world. Many followed in pop music, but Michael Jackson’s contribution remains unparalleled, truly ‘neither in the past nor in the future.’

“He came into this world knowing he was loved, and left with the same knowledge, believing you can achieve anything in between,” he used to say, a statement by the great artist who mesmerized the world. His personal doctor was implicated in his death. At the age of fifty, on June 25, 2009, he bid farewell to the world. However, the 20th century and the second millennium have passed, but his magic remains the same.
